Powertrain and Engine Options
The F-250 gives buyers three distinct engine paths. The standard 6.8L V8 gas engine with a 160-amp alternator suits everyday work. Step up to the 7.3L 2V DEVCT NA PFI V8 for maximum naturally aspirated displacement, available with a dual 410-amp alternator setup. The 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel rounds out the lineup in both standard and High Output configurations, with an available 250-amp or dual 410-amp alternator and an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor.
Every F-250 pairs with either the TorqShift-G 10-speed automatic (6.8L gas) or the TorqShift 10-speed automatic (diesel and 7.3L), both tuned with Normal, Eco, Slippery, and Tow/Haul drive modes. A standard diesel engine exhaust brake is included on every diesel-equipped F-250 trim.
The RAM 2500 counters with a 6.4L HEMI V8 gas engine or a 6.7L Cummins inline-six diesel mated to a six-speed automatic. Ford's 10-speed gearbox provides more gear steps for optimized pulling efficiency across a wider range of loads compared to the RAM's six-speed diesel pairing.
